What is your preferred length and material for a prusik knot. I noticed there is alot of discussion on rope strength and biner strength but not much on the prusik. The way i see it is the system is only as strong as its weakest link so ive been looking at the ratings on every single piece of my equipment and i am considering buying some pre made prusik from wespur thats rated around 7000lbs. That should cover most any situation.. Paired with a 6000 lb predator rope and a 25 kilonewton biner i think im pretty safe... Maybe a little over engineered but im concerned not about the working load but the impact load of a fall. I have no idea how to calculate that but would assume its quite a bit considering im about 200lbs...

Remember that the prusik needs to be a smaller diameter (there is a recommended ratio i forgot)than the main rope to work correctly.

I have read that a prusik needs to be 2/3 -3/4% the diameter of the lanyard. Others say 60-80%.

I went with presewn eyes from WesSpur. I believe I bought 30mm length. I had them pair it it up with a heavier lanyard/flipline. I was not worried about the strength of the predator but I wanted a stiffer flipline for climbing. I got tired of the predator rope dropping so to speak.

Now that being said I added weight to my gear and it is not as compact.

What ropes are people using. I keep finding ropes I want to use but they never have the right diameter for the application. Or they come in some ridiculous colour scheme.

I called WesSpur yesterday and asked about prusik cord. I got a call back today and was told to go two sizes down. For example I will be using 10mm. I will get 8mm prusik cord.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking of doing as well.
