I am using 22” modified Hawk Heliums with a 5 step Black Diamond etrier. I am finding it hard to get my foot on the aider very far. Seems like only the 1st couple inches of my shoe wants to go into it without a lot of twisting and turning to get it pulled away from the tree enough. I feel that with muddy hunting boots, my foot may slip out if I dont get it seated into the arch of my foot. Any tricks to help keep the aider away from the stick/tree so I wont feel like my foot is about to slip out the whole time I climb?

Shorter aider would be my best advice

I added a 1/8 amsteel loop to the bottom step and use a knaider from DanO. With a loop on both steps I can use both knaider and swaider.
