Bow Maintenance Survey

I don’t see a business like this ever being profitable enough to make it workout long term.
The amount of money you would need to charge to pay your overhead and make money would be to much for a guy to justify this over dropping it off at a bow shop and picking it up when it’s complete.
Would it be nice for the customer YES but the technician would starve after word got out what he charges in order to make a buck.
Just not enough demand in archery to support this as a full time business imo.
If your thinking side job for cash or a young kid trying to make a few bucks through college maybe but I don’t see it working for a full time job.
If you want to start a business where you go to the customer stay away from archery you can make far more $$$ mowing lawns.

It would definitely be difficult. So far I have had a little over 100 people respond and most expect to be between $50-100. Just doing a quick google search, a compound bow string is roughly $75. So that's maximum $25 dollars in labor. But for this I you would have to add in some sort of travel charge. Without that you'd never make money. So as someone else mentioned, it sort of comes down to the question of whether the customer is willing to pay a premium for the convenience of this kind of service.

I have two bow shops in my hometown and I don't trust either one of them, for various reasons. One is 20 minutes away and the other is 30 minutes away. So I like the idea of a mobile tech. If you could build your own strings, that would be a benefit.
That is wild to me that you can't trust two different businesses. Not sure how they have been able to survive.

Not trying to take away from this thread just noticed a lot of people wanting the same type of information that I do/did. There is a great app you can download onto your smartphone called bow shop bible. Its a one stop virtual bowshop in your phone. You can search youtube videos etc. but this app has everything you need all organized in one easy to use app. I am not affiliated in any way. Just a product I started to use to become much more self sufficient. Obviously, this app is dependent on you having the equipment and interest to do your own bow work. Anyway, just another option out there. Here's the link: https://bowshopbible.com/

That's awesome. I'll have to download that.

I think there is interest out there for it but probably not enough to do besides repay yourself back for equipment or hunting gear. I’d be interested but I think I’m a rare few that would pay the money you need to ask for to be worth your time.

My thoughts exactly. It'd almost be like a mobile bike tech of which there's a few where I live. I'd pay well for a quality tune up vs a slam it in the vice and loop some strings and call it good service.

Right. And I agree with the bike tech. I can do my own bike work to a point. But would be cool to have essentially a private coach

I put $50-$100 but in my head that was all labor. I’d pay $100 for labor alone to come and give 1 on 1 with my bow at my place.

A mobile bow tech is an amazing idea. I have two shops near me and neither would get a good review. The one will only touch two different brands and if you don't buy strings from them they wont touch them. The other is a smaller shop and basically if you didn't buy a new bow from them don't expect to get the bow back anytime soon. A friend of mine went to them to get new limbs for his older "blow"tech and after waiting two months they decided they couldn't do it and sent it in to the company without his knowledge. The place we go now is Scheels and it is over an hours drive but they treat you like the small businesses are supposed to. I would pay the premium for a mobile bow tech especially since i already spend an extra $30 on fuel for the two round trips to get my bow worked on. I tune the bow myself but I'm definitely more comfortable with someone else doing the strings

I just looked at the app. Thanks for the suggestion. How do you like it? I saw there are zero reviews on it so far.
