What’s everyone’s go to camo brand and pattern? (Sitka guys while I appreciate the brand and the gear is probably great, it’s too expensive for the small amount of hunting I do).

I only hunt spring turkey and fall Whitetail in WV.

Need to upgrade to a better clothing system. Mostly better wind protection.

I use a mix of old and new. Camo itself is over rated imo. Obviously you need to have earth tones, but lack of movement is #1.
Last night I was in a tree that's lost alot of leaves. I used my full size Drey which is in ASAT leafy camo. Didn't matter what I was wearing underneath.
That said, I buy Kuiu. I like the fit, the pants double for work if necessary, and they make an array of solid colors. Just wait for the sales.

ASAT First Lite was peak hunting clothes era, but that is no longer, so x2 whatever is on sale. I put very little stock in camo patterns (except I am a bit of an ASAT fanboy). One other pattern thing and it's probably more of a mental block than anything of significance, is the Sitka Elevated pattern has so much white in it, which is good when the leaves are down. But early season, or if you want to use it for turkeys, it's no good. But I also wear more tan and grey solids than I do camo, actually.

I just wish I could find more consistent fits. I like most of the First Lite stuff I've tried, but I have M, L, and XL in various pieces. They seem to be going to a boxier fit overall. If I want that junk fitment, I'll just go to walmart. Sitka seems to be more consistent but they have some whitetail stuff (stratus I think?) that is cut really weird because it's intended to be paired with bibs. Well, I don't wear bibs, so the cut sucks. I don't have anywhere near me to try this stuff on, so when I buy something it's a roll of the dice if it'll work or I need to return it. I haven't bought any new hunting clothes in a few years though, my stuff works.

Get some good hiking cloths or wool and throw a leafy suit over it. I have the ASAT like @JC3 said but I have also used the cheap ones and they work just as well, they just don’t hold up as well. You can find dark or earth tone hiking and wool cloths on sale real cheap.

I’ve picked up the Treezyn late season stuff this year and am happy with it. Very warm

Tried about everything, Kuiu, Sitka, First Lite, Wal Mart, you name it. What I am most impressed with for the price is Kryptek. Either the Altitude or Obscura Skyfall. Not cheap, but will last a long time, and great camo patterns for elevated hunting. Use the Njord system for windy/chilly conditions (down to around 32 with base layers), then switch over to the Vellus for nasty cold weather. Dalibor III for warmer weather. Have had more deer just glance at me and keep walking or eating than when wearing any other camo. Agree that staying still is the MOST important part of it all though.

I should but don't have time to make a log over people's videos where elk hunters get busted without camo.then another where guys are standing in the middle of wide open cat roads with camo and not get busted....if they ain't wearing camo they ain't even trying hard.i would say its like starting a race without tying your shoes but hey...some guys hunt in crocks..
....camo ones...its true you don't need camo to kill but if you understand that stacking the odds in your courner equals higher odds you will fill more tags period.

My favorite pattern is Natural Gear, hands down. Their winterceptor fleece is good stuff for the money. My camo is mix and match though, some first lite, sitka, asio and natural gear. Best hunting pants I have worn are the sitka mountain pants.

If you have ever been within arms reach of a black bear you will quickly and accuratly rate your camo acordingly.and I love all my patterns now they are the best...dont remember what pattern it was but when he didn't eat me I knew it was the best.

How'd he not smell you if he was that close?

Thermals...I have been too close to so many black bears while hunting elk that my friends tease me and call me the bear wisperer.but they are just all over my favorit elk hunting canyon because its an ohv park and there are endless campgrounds that they pillage. That nose thing is a myth.i think they come looking for my pb and j.i only started buying tags and harvesting them in self defence to keep them away from me while I hunt.its typicaly hard for most peeps to harvest them but they just don't listen when I tell them where to go....I have almost been steps on but never spotted by them..even had kyotes walk 5 feet past me with only 2 feet of elevation above them jus goes to show their nose cant beet the breez3572.jpg666.jpg

A game changer for me was a heated vest. It allows me to stay out there longer and stay comfortable. :)

As for camo.... My neighbor was a Navy Seal with 3 tours in Vietnam and what he told me, made me feel invisible in the woods. He said to mix up what you wear for patterns to break up your outline. Don't get caught up in a particular brand or pattern.
Since taking his advice, I've had deer less than 10' from me, could smell me, but couldn't find me and I was standing right in front of them. ;)

I rolled out the door the other morning wearing First lite base layers, sitka solid green mtn pants, a predator brown pull over, an asat vest, rando local farm ball cap and covered it all with some off brand camo fleece like jacket.

I don't do or "run" "systems" or "kits". I wear what I wear.

Despite what all the marketing in the world tells you, the best camo system that exists is SIT STILL AND BE QUIET!
If you put that in a kit or a system for folks to run you could charge $2500 for it.

Of course you'd have to come out with a NEW system/kit next year to sustain your bidness. But that should just be as easy as adding a couple of adverbs in front of "still" and "quiet"

Should get 5-7 years of marketing and income before running out of adverbs and reaching market saturation.

My go to suit is Scentloks Wind Brace line or any piece that has their wind brake technology. The wind brace suit can get me through most of the season here in Northern Virginia. Early season is a bit warm so I usually go with a light suit but mid season is good and late season I throw a heated vest under the coat and am good. They have several pieces that have wind brake technology which I’ve found to be excellent at stoping wind. Their prices have gone up a bit lately but they always have deals or will run a deal, right now they have Black Friday I think. If you’re LEO or military they also have a discount through expert voice. I like their real tree escape pattern, I don’t think it affects deer one way or the other but it makes me feel cool and I find it visually appealing.
