I made one. It can be comfortable.
Mine is 36x28. I sewed a channel in the 28” sides and put a zip tie in the end to gather it, and the 36” length is kind of like bridge loop to bridge loop length. Then whipped the ends with zing-it to give it a ‘ball’ for my Amstel bridge to catch on. If I open it all the way up, just like if it was a mini hammock, it’s great for when your sitting, like sitting in a hammock sideways, if that makes sense. Material covers from mid-thigh to lower back. But if you’re wanting to lean, the bottom and top (it would be the sides if you’re laying in the hammock correctly) digs in your legs and lower back. You can fix that by folding it half under your butt so it doesn’t ‘cup’ so severely. Basically, the 28” width becomes 14” and doesn’t push on your thighs and back, mostly just butt.
Most hammock materials don’t stretch enough to fit nicely in the sitting position and the leaning position unless you make it pretty close to sit drag measurements. That’s why a lot of people use fleece for diy saddles, it has stretch. You can copy the ‘fleece saddle’ design with hammock material and get somewhat the same result.
Always remember to wear a RC harness as backup anytime you use diy stuff.
