Went out last night for more practice shooting from the tree out of habit really as I've been doing it for months and had this buckle failure happen while attaching my ROS. I was standing on my stick with LB attached and when I started to cam the buckle over I felt it get easier as it got to the top of the cam cycle instead of the usual resistance when camming over. I looked at the buckle and saw the rivet on one side had given up, probably worn out from going through all of last season along with continued use up to this point.
Now this was a non event here at home and I've got spares but had this happened while I was setting up on an actual hunt it would have ended that outing. I'll be carrying a spare strap and buckle in the woods this year, lesson learned.
I don't want something as simple as a worn-out buckle to ruin anyone's hunt so please go over every piece of gear you guys are bringing out there. You never know just how Mr. Murphy will show up.
