Can you use rubber boots with spurs or are the shin cups not high enough to be above the boot?

If rubber boots aren’t adequate, is there a recommended hunting/hiking boot that is preferable, or will any of them work fine?

It’s hard to beat a good stiff logger boot but for our usage about any boot will work. You may have some trouble with rubber boots with large openings up top and stiff rubber but I have used lacrosse grange and mucks with no problems.

You can use rubber boots. They aren't ideal but you can make them work. My stiff sole hiking boots work great for climbing with spurs and I prefer those for sure.

I've been climbing with spurs off and on for nearly 25 years. The only boots I've worn in that time are LaCrosse Burly's. When I was quite a bit younger, I used to put my saddle and spurs on at the truck, then take off walking til I found a tree and clumb it. I watched my hunting buddy try doing that with his Kleine's. He made it 3 steps before he ventilated the side of his rubber boot. I don't recommend walking in with your spurs on, but rubber boots are fine for climbing.

I have climbed in tennis shoes but that don’t mean that are ideal.Spend way more time than most folks on hooks and trust me.Get you something with a good heel and good shank.Loggers work well but Lineman’s boots are way way better.Your feet will be more comfortable and your strikes will be more positive.

The are ok just not as much support. I climbed in mucks alot

Would Danner pronghorns be a good choice? Would like to get a good hunting boot (uninsulated and insulated) to use for climbing.

I just want to make sure whatever I go with is comfortable and adequate for long walk-ins on various terrain features.

I’m using rubber with a wide top and I hate it. I don’t stay solid in the heal or the shin and have some skid marks to show for it.

I used lacrosse alpha lites last season which are neoprene and had no issues, I guess they would lack support but I never used spurs with anything else so I'm not spoiled yet

I didn't notice any difference using rubber boots with spurs when I climbed but I wore hiking boots most of the time. Mostly that was because my foot would slide in my rubber boots and at times my toes would all get crammed in the front when leaning in the saddle. Hikers were just a little more comfortable

I only use rubber boots with my spurs and it’s a lot more comfortable on my shins while climbing. I strap them right around my boot tops.

Did you mod the top strap to a buckle, or is it leather?

DC10 The Danners would be a better choice than rubber boots. Not saying you cant climb in rubber boots. You wont be on them very long so they wont be too bad.Just a boot with a good shank is a much better option.
