Cobra buckle question.

Was looking on Amazon for some cobra buckles for some DIY saddles. You can buy belts with the buckle cheaper than the buckle itself. Anyone see any reason I can’t take a long belt and just sew it into the saddle I want to make?

That's exactly what I did with my Sit-drag. The belt was heavier than I wanted though. When I made my Kestrel clone I used thinner webbing and a plastic cobra buckle. I like this buckle much better.
