Custom Pack Build

Did you pop the stich on top to open it. Then add the pad and restich? Looking at the details of the 5.11, it doesnt say that it opens up.

It opens via velcro at the bottom.

I flipped the entire thing upside down when I made my pack so the opening would be at the "top" and slid the cushion in. No need to pull any stitches.

Ordered something similar, should be in soon. This may be the answer for packing in sticks and platform for me. Hopeful!

I couldn't find a pack that was exactly what I wanted anywhere. I like to go with as little extras as possible, like packs that ride high on my shoulders, and give me options to re-configure easily if needed. So, I decided to make what I wanted and it's perfect for me. I can lash down my jacket with additional straps when the temps start dropping. My pictured setup comes in at 10 pounds on the dot and has proved to be tight and comfortable on a couple short practice hikes to check trail cams.

After I take the mini sticks off and attach them to my saddle to climb I use those same straps to hold my bow during the ascent.

On the top row of webbing I ran a buckle strap through, so I can hang it around the tree when setup. Inside of the molle panel (pack body) is 16" x 12" cushion to rest my knees on against the tree. With this setup I have any gear I need right in front of me in the pouches and options to hang any extras on the molle webbing. The whole thing straps tight enough to the tree that it doesn't get in the way when I need to make any moves.

Just thought I'd share!

How do you like your mini sticks? I'm thinking more and more about making something like those? I bought a pair of the API sticks and cut them down to like 22", but I think cutting them down to around 16''-17'' would be better. I'm already using a black diamond 5 step aider with them. Cutting my sticks down from 22''-17'' would be what a lower height of around only 15"? The packability might out weigh the lower height of only 15" or so.

They're awesome! Mine are 16" sticks and I made 20" tubular webbing single step fixed aiders for 2 of them. My first stick has a fixed, two step aider tubular webbing aider (20" each step). I stand at 17' on the top stick and after putting platform on the tree I'm hunting around 19' or so. Total weight with versa straps is around 4.5 lbs. I thought I had pics of them on my phone, but I can't find them.
