I'd rather keep it the way it is. I don't get all the whining about having to adjust. It's one hour of sleep people. Are people really that robotic about sleep or am I the only one that can yoyo between 4 - 10 hours of sleep regularly and still function just fine?

If it has to be one or another all year I guess I am in favor of the shift but it would suck sending my kids to school an hour before it gets light in the winter. Permanent standard time would kinda suck in the spring and fall. BK (before kids) my life was all flexible and I could just work earlier or whatever. Now being beholden to the school schedule has killed quite a lot of my flexibility.

The gov't has no right to tell me what o'clock I have to identify as. I should be able to freely choose EST, PST, CST or DST as I see fit. Why do they think they can just force me into the hour of their choosing? It stops now dammit.
I grew up right near the dividing line between EST and CST. That was no big deal for me

I still haven't managed to get up at 600 since the time change. Maybe by early next week. So yes @elk yinzer I am that robotic in my sleep! :)

Stay on DST. I love the daylight after work. I'm reading posts and wondering what job you could possibly have to be able to hunt before work? I've never had a job that didn't start at 6 a.m. or earlier. If I can get out, it's usually evening. I'm happy I can scout and hunt ( small game)until 8p.m. now!! The Mrs, she doesn't like that so much, but i think it's great!:)

I was thinking if it switched to permanent standard time there are some places I turkey hunt I'd be getting up between 1-2 AM to get there at sunrise in the second half of May. There are some places in the eastern edges of timezones where sunrise would be 3 AM. Craziness. DST is great but I also don't want it all year. WTH is wrong with people.

Yeah, I have a good friend who is a rabid turkey hunter and he hunts before work a lot...almost every day of the season. I have seen him just about die because the clock told him he had to abandon a hot gobbler just over the hill to make it to work on time. It was absolute torture. I'd tell him not to worry, I'll take care of the bird. :)

Nothing is finite. The earth's speed of rotation slows, the magnetic north pole moves 30 miles – every year. The Gregorian calendar tried to keep us in sync with the universe by adding a day every 4 years. Like @BTaylor said, we all generally know what time it is, a clock is merely a convenience. Or, seen another way, a tool created by an industrialist society to get us to work.

Regardless of what the clock/calendar says i know what time is.....i saw my first swallowed tailed kite today so spring is officially here.....just flew in from South America...right on time
Glad one finally got up to you...lol Been seeing a couple for about 2 weeks down here, but you're right about spring. We got our yellow rain of pine pollen in late January and the cypress are all green already....at least the ones I haven't burned yet!

Sounds like some serious cases of “live by the sun, die by the time clock.”

Set it and forget it. No more time change.

My personal preference would be to have the additional light in the evening. I'm sure life circumstances dictate which someone will prefer, but that's what works better for me.

Isn’t it possible to go to work early / stay late so that you can get your hunting time in??

I’m so glad I’m self employed. I can’t imagine working such a rigid schedule for a boss who wouldnt let me move my hours around.

I suspect for many, it's not.

I personally would like it to be DST all the time and not get home in the dark in the winter. I love spring forward, sucks to lose that hour of sleep, but I'll take that extra hour in the evening all day to get outside with the little man. That being said I do think it makes the most sense to keep it the way it is. It's a no brainer in the summer time. Who would actually benefit from it getting light at 4 am? If you would, you are probably in a very small minority. Then in fall/winter I think there is a pretty fair argument to be made for switching back for safety with kids getting on the bus and construction start times. I realize those times can all be adjusted and that's probably what would end up happening if we did make a permanent switch but in my mind it would be a lot easier to just keep it the way it is.

As for energy savings, makes total sense in the summer but in fall/winter anything you gain in the evenings is probably going to be lost in the mornings but I guess we won't know for sure unless this passes.

Hunting doesn't even factor into it for me. I have to make arrangements to hunt regardless so it's not going to affect my hunting at all. I would have to think that most hunters would actually benefit more from an extra hour in the evening but I couldn't care less.

Its ok bud we all have our faults, yours just happens to be not wanting more daylight in the evening.

“What’s in it for me?”

AM hunts:
I am not a morning person.
In October and the first week of November I like the fact that hunting doesn’t start in the morning until about 7:00 am. When the clock moves back an hour, that means I have to drag my carcass out of bed an hour earlier. I don’t really like that. On the days when I have a long drive to the hunting spot, and a long hike/bike/canoe into a spot, getting up at 2:00 am kinda stinks!

PM hunts:
In October and the first week of November, I like it that the evening hunts end about 5:45, because it is still possible to leave work a bit early and get out for an evening hunt. Once the clocks move back an hour, and shooting time ends at 4:45 pm, I lose the ability to hunt after work in the evening without burning some vacation time. So, I tend to get out less often in November, which kind of stinks because that can be some of the best hunting.

In general I am not able to hunt in the mornings before work. (And, a couple of times when I was able to get out for a hunt in the morning, and I actually shot something, it then meant I wasn’t able to actually go to work…..which kind of caused other problems!)

So, I’m not a fan of the “fall back” adjustment. I see two disadvantages for me. (And, of course, it’s all about me, snowflake! LOL.)
