These are some DIY platforms that I made out of some Big Game tree steps that I got a Menards for $10. I cut a piece of 1x8 and mounted it to the top of the step with some #14 1 1/2 inch sheet metal screws. Make sure you cut out the space between the step legs so that it does not "high-center" on the tree. Put some non-slip step tape on the top. I plan to use these for a few preset trees.

Sweet!!! I have a bunch of those steps for the purpose of presets on public land. I've been pondering for awhile how to incorporate a functional platform for them. Please update on how they perform, hold up, and ease of transport with it permanently attached like that.

Last year I made one of these platforms (different shape but still a board screwed to the top of the step) and used it with 3 other of the same steps. They would all nest together as long as the one with the board on it was on the top. I could strap them to my pack and carry them out to my tree with little difficulty. It was a heavy "mobile" set up but it was what I had. I would get to the tree and use the three ladder steps to get up to the tree and then add the 4th one with the board (platform) on it. I would climb to the top of it and then set my tether and was ready to hunt my feet would be at about 18ft. It worked very well. The platform is very stable and you can apply a lot of side pressure without it slipping on the tree. This year I am using the DIY platforms locked to trees that I want to preset and I am using my newly acquired Lone Wolf sticks to get me up the tree to them. Now I only have to carry the three LW sticks to the tree. Way lighter.
