Here is my saddle. Waiting on some buckles, otherwise it’s mostly complete. Went rather quickly, wasn’t my first use of a sewing machine and thanks to another fella on here that threw up his dimensions!

Bought the sewing machine a year ago, this is my first real project. Originally got it just to sew stuff on my military uniforms and fix little broken stitches here and there. This machine tackled this job with no problems.fullsizeoutput_772.jpegfullsizeoutput_773.jpegfullsizeoutput_776.jpeg

What size needle and what kind of thread did you use for that? Have any hang ups using that model for heavy duty stitching?

I just looked at one of those on amazon, 140$. I wondered how it good it worked

I used the “Denim” needle. Thread is the Gutermman 40 off of the Rockywoods website.

No real hangups with the machine. Messed around with some layers of fabric and webbing prior to sewing the actual saddle. Straight stitch is simple and straight forward as long as you have the settings right. I went with the triple straight stitch for the MOLLE loops and found I had to adjust the tension in order to lay down quality stitches.

For a basic machine...seemed to work well. Have sat in the saddle a couple times, haven’t identified any issues with seam durability yet.

So far it seems to of worked just fine. I’m no sewing master but I’ve used a machine here and there in life. My mother is a sewing fanatic and claimed the stitching looked pretty legit on my saddle. Good enough for me. Ha.

I have zero experience with sewing machines but there's one for sale not too far from me. Might have to snag it and start messing around with some projects.

Sewing machines are not difficult to navigate. As with anything in this world today...watch some YouTube videos. Go to the fabric store, get some cheap fabric and thread, start there. Learn how to thread your machine and then mess with the setting; tension, stitch length. Identify how that effects the stitch outcome.

When I was a child, my mother had sewing workbooks. Was like a connect the dots book but for sewing. At the end of the day what you learned was how to control the speed of the machine with the foot peddle, as well as following a stitching line.

I also recommend sewing without shoes on. Socks or barefoot allows your foot to “feel” the foot pedal better. You achieve finer control of the pedal that way. In my experience.
