It could be the emerald ash borer
This^^^
It's crazy around here with trees crashing down. 90% are dead ash trees or other trees that are being knocked down by falling ash trees.
I had one crash down right past a stand a few years ago while I was not in it. I'll add some pics in a few minutes.
Well crap, pics need rotated and I don't know how to edit them.
1st pic is the ash that snapped off beside the stand. Also, notice the other larger tree laying on the ground. Our woods are littered with dad ash everywhere, which has created another issue. We have Japanese Stilt Grass taking over and growing all though the fallen trees. You cannot see where you place your foot while walking. It's really easy to step down into a tangle of branches hidden in the stilt grass. Tripping of twisting a knee or ankle is a real possibility.
These newly fallen ash can also completely bock our access routes creating a pain-in-the-ass road block. What
was a nice clear access trail to a stand can become impassible causing a detour that eats-up precious time, or creates extra noise, or alters our route enough to alert deer, on our way to (or from) the stand in the dark. Ash trees are a serious problem.
2nd pic is how close that tree came to crashing onto the platform.
3rd pic shows why it didn't hit the stand. As it fell, it hit the leaning tree and the leaner steered the dead ash from hitting the stand.
I'd still be cleaning poop from my pants if I was in the stand at the time the ash fell.
