I was just reading a thread where someone recommended the book "bowhuntings whitetail masters" and unfortunately I can't find a copy to buy. Anyone have any other good deer hunting books they like to read? I'd like to make a list to read for a rainy day too.

I didn’t care for Sheppard’s book, too many absolutes for me. I can’t think of a deer hunting book that really stood out to me. Many have really good aspect to them, but unless you’re reading a book specifically written for or about the area you hunt then it’s not going to be earth shattering. And no one writes books about hunting SC WTBDs, lol

Fair enough. As an alabama boy I've found his absolutes to be useful.

Anything Wensel.
Hunting Rutting Whhitetails was Gene's 1st book. Its out of print but can occasionally be found but it's pricey. Gene and Barry have written several books and are whitetail geniuses. Lots of what is now considered common knowledge is stuff these guys figured out before anyone else...even biologists.

The Witchery of Archery. It’s about 5 bucks and a great read.
“So long as the new moon returns in heaven a bent, beautiful bow, so long will the fascination of archery keep hold in the hearts of men.”

Honestly, there's too much content out there on whitetails these days for me to read anything about them... if I'm going to read an outdoor/hunting book, it's going to be fiction.

Yep, Roger was another whitetail genius. His (2?) books are classics. Not easy to come by. The Stickboys podcast has had several episodes that they've read from one of his books. Great podcasts.

I'm planning to dig back into Mapping Trophy Bucks here soon. The author hunted the same part of IN, so it's really relevant to the terrain that I hunt.

Bob Fratzke’s Taking Trophy Whitetails is a must-read in my opinion. Dude was decades ahead of his time. Used to hire small plane pilots to fly him over his hunting grounds to take photos since satellite photos weren’t readily available then. Talk about dedication!

Two come to mind immediately that I enjoy and that I think have a ton of good information in them.

1. Way of the Whitetail (Leonard Lee Rue III) - I’m in NJ and I appreciate all his pictures/experiences not far from what I call home.

2. Bowhunting Whitetails The Eberhart Way
