Picked up 25 ft of Kernmantle static 7/16 for $10 and some 8mm cord, total was $26 including shipping and found some 20kn liberty mountain carabiners at cabelas for $5.26 apiece, around 50 for a lineman and tether, I didn’t think it was too bad

Those look like they will work just fine.

I bet though you are on the same path so many of us have travelled: you'll be buying a ropeman 1 for your linemans belt after a few uses.

The ropeman really makes a huge difference - safer, quicker, easier. Well worth the $45.

Why do you find the ropeman safer than a prusik?

When you set the belt around the tree and realize it is too large, then you have to let go of the tree to use both hands to adjust the prusik. With the ropeman, all adjustments are made one handed leaving the other free to hold the tree.

How would you compare it to a prusik with a rope tender that allows one hand adjustment? I haven't used either. I am switching from a one handed strap from HSS. Maybe you or someone else has used the ropeman and also a prusik with something like what Aero Hunter has worked out for one handedness?

I started with just a prusik. Then added a brass ring with a paracord line back to carabiner as a tending loop. That improved things, but since the prusik tends to tighten up, it was tough to slide. After a season I bought a Ropeman1. Much easier to adjust. I suggest you use what you have made. It looks good and will work. I like the patriotic look too! Once you get some experience with it you'll notice where it can be improved,
