First one down

Thank you everyone. It was an extra special hunt. New location and plenty other hunters. Took a half dozen sits and constant moving to narrow down a legitimate travel lane. I used topo at first but had to rely on visual deer sightings to figure it out finally. The number of deer I saw, had to pass on because the shot was just not right, or got winded because I was still below them was ridiculous. To say I was on a mission at that point is a gross understatement. This would never have been possible with a hangon or climber. The tree I was finally set up on sucked. Big leaner with a large branch in the way near the high side. But it was the only one on this bit of a flat spot on a steep hill. Every other tree was either on the wrong side for wind or had too many other small trees in the way for a shot. I did not want to go in there and start clearing branches. So I hung on the low side and was rewarded.

I cannot think of a better way to explain to somebody the value of hunting out of a saddle. Anything else and I would have just continued to watch deer 60 yards away with never a shot.
