Cant this year but will keep it in mind. Have a trip to SC this October. I will check out the hunt though, sounds interesting for sure.
I go in grey light early and hunt until around noon. Go eat lunch, rehydrate and take a nap until 3ish. I try to be back in a tree before 4pm because during the hot part of early season I usually see the most deer between 4:30 and dark. Unlike @josh9284 I don’t often see deer during the hottest part of the day and when I do it’s usually a young small doe or 2.Since this is our Florida specific thread can we talk some "tactics" real quick? U guys from cool regions can piss off.
Ok....so I specifically talking archery and muzzy season when it's still balls hot. U go in early and hunt the cool of the morning and u take a break in the heat of the day. In my case I rehydrate, eat lunch, take a nap......here is were the question lies...what time are we walking in, in the afternoon. I know distance traveled playa a huge role but realistically the deer/hogs are moving until that sun has gone down and it's pushing last shooting light......I've done both..walking in early and sit and sweat for hours and shoot 1 at last light and also been "late" walking in, set up and shoot 1 within 45minutes to and hour after stepping onto the platform. I'm getting to the point to were..wondering why I'm not walking in "late" every time?.......
Out of woods by 2. I used to try late afternoon but I wasn't seeing as much buck activity to justify. Not saying I didn't see bucks but if I did it was last light. I shoot a recurve and do t have any sights so when I can't see the vitals and barely see silhouettes I won't take a shot and risk injuring vs killing. So u are saying u don't hunt in the afternoons?
