NY hunting starts on 9/1 and this weekend I have the added bonus of my gf going out of town! Gonna do a little 2 night float down the river hunting geese, squrrels and smallmouths. I'm thinking about bringing the saddle but im not sure how much use it will be. I'm also, thinking about bringing NO food, is this badass? Or just stupid?

Ha, throw a couple freeze dried food packets in the pack just in case, or a pack of tuna. Nothing makes you any less patient early in the morning fishing than being hungry!!!!

Good luck, have fun!

hahahahaha, I'll consider it.

I went on a similar trip with a guy who wanted to "hunt and forage" for sustenance. I convinced him to bring some food. He not only ate every crumb, but he also dipped into my supply.

Canoeing will make you hungry. You will burn way more calories on the water than you think. Freeze dried food is great, as is canned/pouched chicken/tuna. I also have been known to pack peanut butter, honey, and soft tortillas. They're non-perishable, non-squishable, and a honey and peanut butter burrito packs enough protein, carbs, and sugar to kill a walrus. Just what the doctor ordered when you've spent a day paddling, toting your canoe around deadfalls, and clambering up muddy banks.

There's a reason we progressed from hunter/gatherers to farmers. And how many paintings have you seen of a fat indian? Bring some food.

@Nutterbuster I'm fat enough, I'm kinda going for that Indian hunter/gatherer look. Also, the river hits towns every couple of miles, if I get too famished I'll stop and buy some stuff.

I have a strong feeling I'm going to get done and feel like I should have taken this advice hahahaha. Maybe I'll pack and try not to dip into it.

Like I said, I convinced a rough-and-tumble ex-army bodybuilder to do the same. Told him he could leave it in his bag and not touch it if he wanted to, but either he was going to bring some or I was going to buy some for him. I told him to at least pack an MRE or two. He brought 2 for a 3 night trip and ate them both in a day.

You're going on the trip to have FUN. Pretending to be Daniel Boone is lots of fun, but it's less fun when your blood sugar drops and the headache sets in. Combine that with the fact that you won't sleep as well as you would at home and the fact that SOMETHING else will go wrong to raise your blood pressure, and it will turn into a drag.

Nessmuk said he went to the woods not to rough it, but to smooth it.

I say go for it. It’s only two days and I would think your bound to at least find a squirrel to eat.

And the guys at saddlepalooza were bound to at least shoot ONE hog.;)
No one got a hog?! The reviews I read about it down there were hogs everywhere! I couldn’t swing saddlepalooza but I’ve been trying to set a trip up there anyway because of how awesome it looked online.
