I posted this on another category, i did not find the answers i was looking for . Last season i used my full body harness that came with my climber to wear when i climbed using tree gaffs. After examining my harness ive noticed the line belt loops sewing is becoming loose.
I need to replace my harness, with alot of attention to the load of my lineman belt loops
Im having difficulty finding a harness for my tree spikes and modified sit drag set up. I want a harness that has proper load bearing lineman loops. I am also wanting my harness to offer fall protection. Im not sure if a saddle harness or rock climbing harness offers fall protection? I do not want to spend a whole bunch of money, also do not want to sacrifice safety.
I cant seem to find enough information about harnesses in general.....
What do you guys use for saftey harness while using spikes?

I do not now of any rock climbing harnesses that have lineman's loops. Some of the metolius harnesses have rated loops but they are not lineman's loops.

Like red said I don't know of any RCH that has dedicated linesman's loops but there are a couple different ways that you can add them. I personally have two continuous loops of amsteel girth hitched on mine for linesmans loops.

What are you calling " fall protection"? Rock climbing harnesses by nature are designed to catch a fall. Are you referring to a rip stitch lanyard or some other type of deceleration device?

When i say fall protection, i mean if I were to use my harness for a lock on stand too, with tethers from the back.
Ive seen some harnesses on arborist sites that would be good but are expensive and noisy.
Ive seen ways to diy loops, i was just hoping to find something commercially available.
Ive considered the tengo harness. Also cant find info on these saddles if the lineman loops are strong enough to endure the constant pressure while climbing with spikes.

I don't think you will find any rock climbing harness with a tether in the back. The commercially available saddles with linesmans loops are perfectly fine to climb with Spurs, many people on here do.

Check out the petzl falcon mountain. It has rated loops on the side for positioning with a lineman’s belt. However, tether would attach in front.

Check out the Tree Spider harness by Scent Blocker. I bought one a few years ago, it has lineman’s loops and an attached tether on the back. I’ve used mine for everything you’re asking about; climbing with spikes, steps, sticks and as a fall arrest from a lock on stand. They’re pretty affordable too, I think I paid about $75 for mine.

In my opinion, "constant pressure while climbing with spikes" is a small fraction of actual body weight. And, even considering a cutout when it would have to support body weight there's not much of a shock factor like there would be if it was a fall from a stand. I have my rock climbing harness rigged with running spliced loops that are three strand 1/2" rope. Never had a problem even with a few cutouts.

I like this harness..... i think i might be over thinking this too much..... i think the only harnes appropriate for spikes will be arborists harness.
Ive never bought a harness outside of it being included in a stand.
So i was trying to buy the right one for the application. I think a hunters harness will do just fine. It may only last 2 seasons though . Thanks to all!
