Hawk helium climbing height

Hey all, I figured I’d post about the height I can get with three hawks and a moveable 3 step etrier. I’ve seen people asking so here’s my experience.

I’m 5’10” and 260 lbs so not the most nimble admittedly. Using my chin as a reference for placing the sticks I set the first versa button at chin height and hung the etrier from the middle step and repeated this process until the top. I could set the platform from the top step and I made 19’ to the platform.

This was all without stretching to step. If I stretched and if I set the etrier on the bottom step of the stick I’m certain I could get to around 24’.

Tie a loop of tubular webbing through the aider and you won’t have to hang it on the bottom step to get full use of it.

So simple yet I didn’t think of that haha. Thanks. That’s why I like the forums!

I was just heading home and thinking I should get out my webbing. And I was thinking about a set of moveable aiders hung from the top step. One to move with me. And the other in the pack as “oh crap... I just dropped the aider”

I’m a little shorter. A little lighter. And I made it stock 16’- stock sticks with 1 aider off the bottom stick. Put the as high as I get still step. Figure that bought me a couple feet “extra”

I want to cut the sticks and possible drop to 2. This intrigues me

Do it. For someone in better physical shape than me it’d be real easy to get higher. Especially if you do what EricS mentioned above.

Stock test. Went out with no aiders. Straps. Ladders. Go-go Gadget legs.... just sticks and me. Put the first one as high as I could reach my less than nimble paw up onto. Stick 1 to 2 was also a little stretch, which wasn’t even noticeable until coming down. And 2-3 was comfortable both ways. Have not cut sticks or anything. 16’ from platform to ground. Means leaning I’m shooting from 19-20 feet up.

I’m thinking I’m going with moveable aiders off the top step. I tried on of my hammock straps Goethe’s around my foot and hooked to the top step. Maybe if I was wearing heartier shoes, but that was uncomfortable.

But I’m fine with 16 foot. Until I cut the sticks. Then that’ll drop to 14 I’m sure. Going to swing by REI this week and grab 10’ of static’s line to fish down into my webbing for foot step.

We’ll see.

Good info Spence71. I'm in my "comfort zone" at 15 to 20 foot (from climber days). Haven't got to try mine yet due to leg wound healing, but I'm going to try SloMo's aider on the first rung of steps and use Artisan Outdoor Fabrications platform on last rung. Should get me 15-20 foot, got silent approach ros in case I need couple more feet.

I think a moveable aider from the top step is the way to go

Do you have video of this at all? I would love to see it. I'm going to be doing this exact same thing except I will have muddy pros (shorter sticks), and a 4 or 5 steps aider. I'm 6' and pretty flexible. If my math is correct, I think I can get around 16.5-17.5 feet with just two sticks...plus mounting the platform 1-2 feet higher than that with put in the 18-19 foot range.
