I apologize if I seemed judgemental. When I was in the UAW we had a poster "where does the money go" it compared buying a foreign car vs a domestic. It was jaw dropping what money stayed here and what back to the foreign companies.
I'm simply trying to inform, I do believe this is the mindset that will keep this country going vs imploding. We don't even manufacture our pharmaceuticals in this country. Time to reclaim our industries and our workforce.
Rant over...

private truths and public lies. Everyone likes to say ‘merica! But the reality is, when you’re in your own house with no one to judge you, the addiction to cheap stuff is much harder to overcome. I suspect that even the loudest critics of foreign goods, have quite a bit of cheap foreign stuff in their house.

you’re not wrong about there being some issues. But making it that black and white just puts an unfair burden on folks without the resources to buy local. It also ignores the worst part of cheap foreign labor - and that’s the suffering imparted on some of those foreign workers. And yet - “cheap China crap” also affords some folks with a decent life.

it’s complicated.

Same issue, the high attachment point presses the step into tree when weighted. The new design would cause the top to roll away from the tree.

Yep, the shorter, proposed design would increase the amount of leverage your body weight has on the strap and would cause the strap to pull away from the tree instead of the step sliding down and benefiting from friction with the bark.

Just a quick thought on making the SS more stable for side pressure. If you ran a rope or possibly a strap through the hole at the bottom of the steps, along with the strap through the top slot and used either a truckers hitch for a rope or an OCB on a strap I'll bet you could all but eliminate the side movement. What do you think?

Tree Hopper steps weigh a little more but do it by being wider overall plus having little wings on the back.

If companies want people to keep buying American made products than they need to stop paying such poor wages to workers. The difference between this set of steps for $50 and another for $125 is a big difference to a lot of middle income guys.

Sad reality is if you compare our wages to say Mexico, we would be quite competitive if it wasn't for the cost of healthcare.
Also, compare the wages of the workers and management today vs 50 years ago. The gap has become the size of the Grand Canyon. I'm pretty sure there is a correlation to the loss of union jobs.
If we don't turn things around we will all be working on "corporate plantations"...

Attention all hawk indentured servents/slaves...I mean employees.... The line is retooled for saddle platforms and steps. Work hard to reach ur daily quota of 150 platforms a day and we will include an extra can of potted meat and 1 cup of victory gin to ur daily rations. CCP will be keeping an eye on all of u. We will be convening at 0900 for the daily two minute hate

Lots of liberal opinions here compared to other hunting sites i’m in WOW!

Supply and demand in a free market is what drives innovation and productivity not artificially elevated wages and thus inflated prices. If youre supplying a superior product worthy of a higher price by all means charge the higher price and i’ll gladly pay it. But if you’re charging a higher price and supplying the same product sorry, i’m buying the more affordable product. Especially if you’re charging DOUBLE.

Now that that’s out of the way I bought these steps, 2 packs, for $50 TOTAL as i had a $50 coupon for Sportsman’s Warehouse. Literally an unbeatable bargain for 8 steps that weigh 3oz a piece. I also own 4 Squirrel Steps that i bought two years ago. These Hawk steps weigh the same, function the same, they are essentially identical EXCEPT for price.

They are great steps with zero discernible difference in function or quality from my Squirrel Steps, literally none. If anything i like the Hawks better as that little tooth keeps them from moving/rolling outward as much as the SS do.

If you’re in the market for steps these are a no brainer being virtually identical to squirrel steps except you can get 4 for $50 vs 4 SS for $100. I might even buy another set to leave in the tree at that price.

My comments about Hawk have nothing to do with any sort of "liberal" opinion, product superiority, function, quality, or the price of any particular item. They are based on a completely horrible customer service experience stretched out over several weeks/months. Based on that experience, I will not be purchasing another item from Hawk/GSM ever again.

I picked up a set of pieoneer steps to compare to the monkey bars and the monkey bars win on first appearance. Ill try n get em on a tree to compare em a lil more tomorrow
