How high can you climb?

Hi All,

I'm looking for the lightest setup for climbing when diving deep into swamps. I have custom sticks I modified out of the API new sticks (amsteel rope and shortened them to 22'' and the muddy pros. It's hard to beat the speed and easy of the rope cam cleat, especially when it gets cold out.

I tried the Wild Edge steps and just didn't like how slow they were and felt like you had to have the perfect tree. I climb some gnarly looking trees sometimes. The sticks are for me.

My question is I'd like to bring in just two sticks and my saddle, when I dive deep into some swamps. What type of aiders are people using to get as high as possible, with climbing sticks only please.

Multistep moveable aider seems to be the best option? Does anyone have any pics of their aiders they are running?

Also, how are you guys packing your sticks in and out? My setup is a saddle, predator platform, and 2-3 sticks.

Thanks!

I have 5 muddy pro's but I only use one. I have a 40" aider made from tubular webbing with a 1 foot section of heater hose on it. I place it on the top of my step and it hangs 18" from my bottom step. It works very well...the aider is so long in case I decide to use my other 4 sticks.

One stick is light...3 lbs light. However I just purchased a 6foot yates big wall aider and will attach it to a HSS rope as my ascent tool. With two tethers, two prussic hitches, two carabiners and one big wall aider I'm less than 2 lbs.

Have you actually tried the Yates big wall ladder in a hunting situation yet?

Not yet...I sprained my knee Monday...I will do it this weekend. I have done similar things before. I made my own aider two years ago and climbed up a tree with my two lineman belts and a homemade aider. My homemade aider kept collapsing on me...couldn't find the foot stir-ups. I am 75% sure this will work in getting me up the tree.

I'd love to see some examples of the Yates Big Wall Ladder in use. I think its a great idea. 7.5-8' per stick would be awesome.

I already purchased a Yates Big Wall. Been doing some practice using WE Steps for a anchor and standoff. I would like to see how you use a tether without a stand off.

My CAYG aider. I made the top to hook on each side of the step. Keeps it open making it easier to get a foot in and reduces foot pinch as well.

I've heard these types of aiders pull down when climbing them, making the next step slightly skinnier? Also, is this a fixed aider or do you move it up as you climbing?

One Hawk Helium stick for me. I use a Black Diamond 5 step aider as well. My first stick I put up as high as I can get it and climb up the aider and the stick. I just leave the aider on there and use the top two steps to climb from there on out. At the top I put the aider in my pocket so it is not blowing around.

I was just climbing with a tape measure today. I used 2 full size hawk helium with a single step tubular webbing aider on each stick. i'm 6'1 and not very flexible. i can get the top of my 2nd stick around 13ft. if i utilize the 3rd stick with the same aider, i can get to 18ish feet. maybe 19.

What does CAYG stand for. Seems to be a few different designs...or am I confused? (which happens more and more each year)

Watch noxninja climbing method on YT and the V method on saddle hunter nation FB. I just ordered the YBW with a 2” cam buckle strap(shouldn’t sag as much as 1” under tension) and plan to blend the two. The big wall should help keep me centered with plenty of foot space.
