Hey guys I hate the WE Stepp bag and have been trying to come up with ideas for a homemade bag I could sew up and hopefully improve. I was kind of thinking about a simple bag with a roll down and clip top and bottom kind of like what's on a dry bag. So you could open the top and the bottom once you got to your tree so that the ropes hang out of the bottom and you just reach in through the top opening to pull the stepps out. I would make it a little looser fitting so that the steps just go down into the bag and I could do away with the zipper. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any ideas that could improve the bag for these Stepps

I'm with you. Sold all my steps partly for that reason. Could not zip mine up after I took them out the first time. Went back to sticks. Someone had really good pics here earlier of a new mod bag that looked good. Stepps hung in a strap and bag was fully open down the front if you can locate it.

Yes I saw that and thought it would work. I just like the idea of a little looser fitting bag that didnt have an opening on the front. Just openings on the top and bottom

I have been thinking if sewing a larger fleece pocket all the way around the bag and sealing it off at the bottom, but still keep the hole in the bottom of the actual WE bag. And potentially sewing in something like a metal ruler on the middle of the back of the bag to keep it rigid and act as a divider creating 2 pockets.

Can yall link to that picture? Thanks.

You could be talking about the bag i made so searching my username might help. I gave it away to someone on here and moved on to what is a better system imo. It works well for me. Not as light or compressable as the bag but i dig it.

I too don’t care for the WE bag especially the strap to hang over my shoulder. I climb with my pack and its all too busy on that side with my linemans belt and my aider pull rope. I am currently waiting on materials to sew a new bag. I have a multi purpose plan in the mix and will post once i have it completed.

@LeanMachine i saw your bag post just after i posted my previous comment. You did a really simplied version but gave me new direction lol similar to your original design. I have to order some additional stuff now haha!!

I know you sew so I'm interested in seeing what you come up with, I am going to give this a ty in the near future . I'm thinking of a putting material round the bag essentially making a second bag with another zipper but making it larger. So the bottom would be open so I could let the ropes through the bottom, Id make that like a cinch draw bottom. I never have a problem going up the tree , its when I come down to repack the bag, here is where the larger outside bag with a zipper from comes in , I would zip it up but the bag would be larger an more open now which would allow me to put the steps and the ropes in but keep them from falling out of the bag if they tip. That has really been my only problem with the steps and bag mostly because the bag is so tight to the steps. once on the ground I can unzip the outer bag zip up the inner bag and tuck the ropes in the bottom of the opening and cinch it tight. I'm still going over this in my head , I think it should work, but before I commit to sewing it up and buying a zipper,I'm still contemplating the idea.
