I bought the singer 4452 a little over a year ago. It punches through 2 layers of webbing easily, 3 is a little more flaky, and 4 I often have to walk it through by hand. But this works for 95% of what we do. I've sewn fleece, neoprene, webbing, cordura, etc. with no issue.
I'd say that if you've got the time, and the desire to tinker with a used machine, go to town. But if you just want to sew as another skill in your hunting arsenal, I'd get a newer machine. I suffer from the same disease as a lot of guys here - I need to know how it works, and I want as much responsibility for it working as I can manage. But sometimes, you just have to sew stuff and move on. It is nice now to pull out my machine, do what I need to do, and throw it back in the closet.

I sewed this linemans belt up pretty quickly. My machine had no issue with two layers of tubular webbing, and a layer of seatbelt webbing.
