I never used knee pads because I just felt it was too much gear to put on. This year I have been using my XOP seat on the tree to put my knees against and it was great I alternated straddling tree and knees on the seat and was very comfortable with the kestrel, my first hunt was 5 hours.

Honestly... I started with a trophyline, upgraded to an evolution, and now a Kestrel. The kestrel crushes them all.

How small does it pack down to? I know my evolution isn't as packable as I would like it to be.

I'm going to change a few things on mine but right now ropes and all rolled up about the size of a small roll of paper towels.

If you store your tree tether and linemans belt somewhere else it can be packed down quite small. Here it is next to a thermacell with only the bridge attached.

Where can I find knee pads? Do you guys have any suggestions on brands?

I bought Huskies from home Depot, gell filled with rubber on the front they don't make any noise on the tree. They are also black.

Just made a new thread on what I would consider the kestrel "break in" period: http://www.saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/kestrel-break-in-period.4601/
Whether it was the saddle breaking in or my body still getting used to the new low profile, it took a little time to get fully 100% comfortable with everything I used to do. The only adjustment I had been trying to figure out was how to use a higher tether on large trees. I've been using a high tether again and couldn't be happier.
