Yeah knee pads or a tree pad to put your knees on are pretty common. If you don't want to spend arcteryx money your local hardware store probably has a cheap pair of knee pads. Get buckles not velcro and a softer outside helps reduce noise.

I started with knee pads but switched to a tree pad. The knee pads took up too much valuable space in my pack and/or made my knees sweat and were not comfortable trying to wear them on the walk in.

Jasper, is the tree pad something you made? Do you carry it outside your pack?

No it's a store bought seat cushion. I carry my platform messenger style and have the pad on the bottom of my platform on the way in.. If that makes sense?
