lanyard (retractable?) for rangefinder in pack belt case?

I just ordered a Marsupial rangefinder case.

My plan is to put it on the right side of my Mystery Ranch pack belt. I would like a removable attachment to the pack belt so that I can get to it easily while walking (with bow in left hand), let it drop to my side for a shot when needed, and also if I fall or the case pops open then it can't get totally lost while I'm walking.

I thought about a long, paracord lanyard that I girth hitch to the pack belt and long enough to get it to my eye. However, I'd have to be careful with tending that cord into the case or something, otherwise it'll be snagging brush like a super long wallet chain. My other ideas are: 1. a shorter lanyard that is pretty taut and goes upward to attach to my backpack's shoulder straps (maybe around the position of the sternum strap) or 2. a heavy duty (if they exist) retractable leash (like for office swipe cards). Does anyone know of a good one? I could then move that to the tree and use it up there as well to have the rangefinder handy yet out of the way.

I'm curious about any solutions folks have used and that they like.

Thanks - R

EDIT: Just found this

but reviews say it is loud. I didn't think of that part of retractability. If I used it I'd probably attach it to a normal rangefinder tether and then move the rangefinder totally off of it and onto an S-biner once in the tree.

I have a retractable lanyard from cabela's for a rangefinder. It would work for what u looking for. It's a little noisy kinda like doyles hoist....if u were local I give u the 1 I got cause I don't ever use it

Thanks for the heads up. I might just try the lanyard going from belt to chest and try to keep it along the same line as my shoulder strap. I can't see it getting hung up all the time (maybe sometimes in really thick stuff, but everything is getting hung up at that point!). If that belt to chest lanyard doesn't work, then I'll try the noise leash thing. If you look at my edit to the original post, there's a Nikon one on Amazon, and first reviewer says it makes noise. I can tolerate that with a Doyle's that you only use when a deer isn't around you, but a rangefinder is another kettle of fish!

PS....I thought about the rangefinder case on the shoulder strap, but the MR Scree shoulder straps aren't ideal for that and I'll end up with this wonky thing slappy around and getting on my nerves. That position would allow a short leash to get right to my eye though. I don't carry binos much and when I do it is a monocular in a pocket, so I don't have a chest rig to attach to either (plus my 45 is on a chest rig and in the way!).

I keep my rangefinder in a grenade pouch. I really only use it after getting set up and range the surrounding area around and put it away. The lanyard has screws for disassembly and I'm sure a little grease or some other lubricant and it would be quit. I said loud like doyles but it isn't that loud especially if u do it slowly. I actually forgot I had it until now and now I gonna dig it out and put it into service on the canoe/fishing related stuff somehow.
I wonder if u could rig the pouch up to ride on the arrow quiver or something.... Maybe silly idea

Thought I'd give an update.

If anyone needs a rangefinder case to go on a pack, I highly recommend the Marsupial I linked, based upon a few days of messing with it (no in field use though).

On the back attachment, you go under a piece of webbing and then snap it. It is very secure on my pack belt. The lid opens towards your body, so stuff can't grab it and open it easily. And the magnetic closure is about perfect. It is padded and quiet but also holds with authority. Other manufacturers could take a lesson here. It has pretty thick padding but a powerful magnet.

If this thing comes open and I lose a rangefinder, it will be such a freak event that I'm not even going to worry about it happening. So, I'm not going to tether the rangefinder to the pack at all.

I picked up one of these for my rangefinder. I looked at retractable tethers but decided against it.

i like a thin bungie lanyard with a loop at the end so i can put it on a clip to anything i have pack pouch saddle. ive had 5 range finders and havent even used 1 yet.heavy brush if i see somthing its 17 yards

How often are using a rangefinder? I find it one of the less used items I tend to carry. In most situations it never sees light.

In the tree, every hunt so that I can range my landmarks.

On the move, when I see a deer from a distance it might get used, but it is 6X so I might see if it doubles as a monocular decently (so I can leave my Vortex monocular at home). I don't want to keep it in my pack, but my pocket wasn't good either and it would get fogged up.
