Hey guys...n gals. newb from MA here. Been wanting to harvest a deer my whole life, a few past 50 rings on this ol' tree now so I know it's a late start but I believe with help it can still be done. Dad hunted some but stopped b4 I was walking. Im the basic hunters ed class now. Reading the Bros. E. books and scanning the web for any how to/sensible info I can find. Amazing actually, can't imagine starting out raw with out the web....

Been a backpacker, wilderness survivalist and bass fisherman all my life and looking to tune in even deeper to the woods. Also I did a short stint as a VP for a NFAA club so I'm no stranger to stick and string... But Arthritis has the bow packed away for good and i am training hard with a new Wicked Ridge Warrior xbow that I JUST LOVE. Best to Ya'll and thanks to every one of ya for sharin the info here.

The saddle just seems right!!!

Welcome to the site!

There is a lot of great information out there on the internet but there is a lot of useless information as well. IMO hunting shows have zero value because they set unrealistic expectations for new hunters. I love watching people shoot big bucks as much as anybody but I think they are ruining our sport. A great place for you to start would be John Eberharts books. Also remember that you can put as little or as much into this sport as you desire, you just have to adjust your expectations. Although John's tactics are specifically aimed at hunting mature bucks, you can use the same tactics to just get good at hunting deer.

Good luck!

Thx Red. Got that about expectation management. I considered myself lucky to learn how many doe stamps are available since I'm just starting out. I took a LOT of 2 lb bass to hit my first 10 LB here in the north just two years back.

... & I fixed my typo on the author initials of the books that got me thinking of a saddle hunting. Yep its the E.way... my bad. I respect the way that he ties to teach and the logic of the order.. some people have a knack for teaching and it's clear that John enjoys it. Read tons of your stuff here too.

H Ed class test is tomorrow. :D Sunrises from the trees to follow

Congrats on the bass! Thats a big one up here! I'm not a huge bass fisherman but I got a 5 lb'er last year and that might be the biggest I ever get lol!

Glad you are enjoying all of the reading! We are here to help as needed :D
