Lets talk hammocks

I seen this video and stole his design for the rainfly. i also had this big wire loom stuff I found in the dumpster at work that works pretty good to make a "sheath" so now the whole thing stays intact and rolled up in the storage pouch. Take it out and attach the loop and toggle side to the tree. Wrap around the other side and adjust a prusik that u push the toggle thru and that works as ur midline loop for a truckers hitch. Self locking. Once u got the line tight between the trees center the fly and use the 2 prusils with small biners to set and tension the fly. Slide the covers off and the fly falls into place ready to be staked out. Reflective 550 cord that also reflective for the guy lines. The way the EWO rain fly is made u got a grommet and a plastic buckle thing....pass a bight thru the grommet and capture the buckle thing and tighten down.....stupid easy and quick

That’s pretty cool that the wire loom works as a snakeskin for your tarp. For years I would see videos or hear people talk about a snakeskin being a must have but, I kind of blew it off as being unnecessary. One wind happened to have them on sale when I was ordering some other hammock stuff one day so I bit the bullet and ordered one. Holy smokes, I wish I would have ordered one years ago. It makes packing up and putting out your tarp so much faster and easier.

The wire loom is a little tight where it bunches in the center and I gotta work it a little. I read that a shower luffa is a long tube shape once u cut the string holding it together that works good to that I'll probably try out once 1 of the family wears 1 out and goes to throw it out

The general rule of thumb is 83% of hammock length. I like mine just a hair shorter on my 12’ hammock but, keep it about the 83% on my 11’ hammock.
Yes, I've seen that but I think I like my ridgeline a bit longer. I was asking @Weldabeast specifically because we're using the same hammock setup and I was wondering where he ended up. I've got mine hanging in the back garage now using two old amsteel daisy chains to make an adjustable ridgeline. The only issue is that the single digit to low teen temps back in the unheated garage aren't really conducive to doing much testing. :tearsofjoy:

Unless u have the suspension set up the same distance/angle/height each time I think that Ridgeline length is gonna change if u want to reach that magic number. I was gonna make it a fixed length also but after thinking it over an adjustable length made more sense to me

You need to give it a go, was 28 deg when I woke up this morning in my hammock at camp.

The purpose of the ridge line is so that you get the same hang regardless of the setup. Once you dial it in, as long as you set it up with the same or similar tension on the ridge line you should get the same hang.

That makes sense, I think the EWO hammock is like 10’, it’s probably a little short for your height which is why it feels better with a longer ridegline

I figured it was kinda like my tether and bridge connection....it's pretty much in the same spot every time but there are some situations when I got to set it up a little slight bit different.... And admittedly Im not expert. I've been using my hammocks for years now with no Ridgeline at all so there ya go. Since I've added the RL to the hammock I have just set that line tension to where when I sit on the hammock the RL is 2 or 3 inches above my head and it's seemed to work each time.

The trick is to set the suspensions so the ridge line is taught but not super tight. You should be able to grab it with your thumb and finger and twist it just a little bit. If you set it like that every time the lay of the hammock should feel almost identical and be repeatable. There have been a few times where I’ve adjusted the ridge line a little to get the tension right because of some limiting factor on the setup but, usually I don’t have to touch it. I’m not an expert either but have been using a couple different hammocks with a ridge line for a couple years now. The ridge line definitely make a difference in comfort.

The wma I drew my turkey hunt this year allows camping so I got 2 things coming up soon I get to use my hammock stuff. I don't know if u are allowed to drive up to the campsite on the turkey hunt or not...might be walk in only access. Going to look and listen at that wma next weekend and I'll figure out if I gotta pack it in or can be lazy and drive right up
