I know people did the DIY lineman loop like diy sportsman but could two tubular webbing loops be girth hitched onto the “belt” part of the rch by left/right hip? Does the belt have any strength to it?

That’s how mine is, I believe the belt has all the strength of the rch. Now that is what I think/believe, and as much as I hate to admit it, I have been wrong before lol. Mine is around the belt on the hip behind the leg strap. I’m using a black diamond alpine if that matters to you any

Maybe to help clarify what I have, mine is basically a 1” tubular webbing strap tied in a loop about 8-10” long maybe, and “larks headed” onto my harness and it has a piece of 9mm rope inside of it to help hold its shape,

Yep

Here’s a petzl runner from amazon

It’s about 9-10inches & weighs nothing

Just girth hitch

Can use webbing loops also but they are more bulky

A girth hitch as a lineman's belt? I guess it'd be no different than a tether.

I have a question for those with sitdrags and using those loops as a lineman's belt - since you aren't tied into the sitdrag and it isn't designed for climbing - shouldn't the lineman's be a part of your rock climbing harness?

The loops should be girth hitched on each hip of rock climbing harness to form loops that u attach lineman’s belt/rope/webbing to.

In the pic above with the petzl runner & biner——imagine that combo on each hip & lineman’s rope connected to each biner.

Maybe we have different harnesses and the sitdrag is hiding it. REI says only the belay loop and tie-in loops (when used together) are load bearing, which are both directly in front. I'm scratching my head as to how to tie in my linemans rope safely to my harness..

Here's a pic I found off Google Image (not calling anyone out) that shows my hesitation, but if those are rings the biners are tied to that are load bearing, then I see your point :)

So with this harness or more minimal harnesses u can girth hitch the runner or a small webbing loop on each hip separately.

Pretty much right behind or in the middle of the gear loops.

The girth hitched loop would stick out similar to the gear loops

The gear loop would just be there to keep the climbing rated girth-hitched loop from sliding forward.

A couple zip ties could also help keep the loops in place.

They now give u lineman’s loops to hook to.

You might be creating a uncomfortable knot that would be at hip location to create pressure with girth hitching directly to the belt if I understand correctly
This is my settup from the back.
