Lone wolf hand climber mods

Hi guys I have a XOP HC I would like to use as a platform with sticks and as a climber when the tree is right.

I read that some XOP HC's broke with the bolt mod. What do you guys think of a beefy stainless hose clamp instead of a bolt?

This way you could adjust the angle to find the sweet spot between 40-50 degrees, and not weaken the cast aluminum by drilling a hole and having torque applied to a bolt twisting the frame?

- Also, should this be in a separate HC Post or in a new Post?

I despise hose clamps and would not trust that personally but use your best judgement. Anytime I’ve tried using a hose clamp metal on metal never worked good. It will eventually work loose and move.

So the trust thing I can argue. Worse case the clamp breaks and your angle is slightly off. Worse case drilling the platform your platform is destroyed. Assuming you’re tethered in and have a rappel rope you are safe and can get down.

The working lose thing I can see. Probably a good idea to wrap it with something like tape before installing the clamps and to check them regularly.

What happens if it’s Strips or breaks in middle of climb good chance you’ll be hanging and hopefully you don’t have too much slack in your tether. It’s ultimately up to end user but I have enough to worry about already I personally don’t trust the bolt mod or a hose clamp.

Well if the hose clamp goes mid climb the step will slip slightly on one side and the angle will suck a bit. If the bolt fails and the metal breaks like the pic your left hanging.

My point is that drilling is bad and an external mod like the clamp idea is safer but also not perfect.

In a perfect world Lone Wolf would engineer a saddle hunting step OR include adjustability in their next version.
