Lone wolf stick cutdown question

For those who have original lone wolf stick cut downs, do they still stack the same? Or do you have to stack them from the side after altering? I want to cut mine near the middle stick and flip the hardware, leaving the versa button in place. My concern is the stacking after flipping.

I didn’t flip mine though.. I cut like 7-8 inches off the top and moved the versa button down to where the middle step was and moved the top step to where the versa button originally was

Ok I was thinking I would have to drill a hole, was just hoping someone had a mod where it stacked simple

Mine stack EXACTLY the same, just shorter.

I left the Versa Button and top step right where where they were and cut the length i wanted gone off the bottom and reinstalled the step and and V bracket right where the middle step was. I left like a couple inches beneath that bottom step so the stick on top of it could rest on that when stacked. I switched my steps over to Dan O's Doublesteps https://doublesteps.com/product/doublestep/

I did the same except I added DanO's doublesteps. I would add the old carpenters adage tho, measure twice-cut once. I would test fit them all to ensure they'll stack.

have you had any issues with kick outs? I currently have double steps on the top steps of mine but considering going back to single steps for packability

I only hunt one to try it out so far... but no. Stick was solid to the tree

Have you seen any kick outs from your versa button being in the middle of the stick instead of the top 1/3?

Sticks look good.

Ideally I want to cut near the base of the middle step, flip the hardware, and not have to drill any holes. Leaving the versa button exactly where it is. Anybody tried this?

I cut mine just below the second step and I’ll I did was drill a new hole for the versa button to move it up some. Everything else stayed in the same spot. I was always more of a fan of side stacking my lone wolfs even when they were full size and since I cut them down I did the mod to allow the standoffs to rotate vertically.

What did you have to get to have them rotate like that? I know it's inset to the stick and threaded but I can't for the life of me think of what that would be called.

How to you keep them together tight when side stacking?

I take one of the amsteel ropes and put it on one of the versa buttons and then wrap it around the sticks and then on the end of the amsteel I threaded a piece of bungee cord through the rope that I stretch and hook onto one of the versa buttons to keep it tight. I've also just wrapped the amsteel around the sticks and cinched it tight on itself and I've never had a problem.

I cut mine, switched to double steps, drilled and countersunk using beast stick as a template, and then recessed the bolt head into my versa buttons. They stack well and I was able to place my versa button at the optimal spot and I didn't have to worry about drilling a new receiver hole or lining the button up. I also left a bit of overhang on the bottom to receive the standoff from the stick above.
