Magnets for stick stacking

With multiple companies using rubber grommets for interlocking sticks it got me thinking. Has anyone tried using magnets? Would need a creative way to attach them to the stick, but has potential to make a really low profile side stacking setup.

I think that is a cool idea, but from the few times I have played around with those type of magnets, they are not quiet when they slap together unlike the rubber grommets... perhaps if you could get them mounted so they are just far enough apart to attract, but not click together? Would be interesting

There is a rubber covered magnet I was going to try, haven’t finished the sticks yet to give it a shot.

piece of advice number 1: when the magnet comes with a warning to protect your fingers, heed it.

piece of advice number 2: it will work, and it will work well. But be prepared to spend some real time dialing it in.

I'm 75% of the way through tinkering with it.

the rare earth magnets are brittle, and if they slam together, or get slammed against a truck or rock, they'll crack. The stealth strip is as much for the noise as it would be to protect the magnet. Personally, I think the answer is going to be having the magnet inside the stick tube. I've got a few different ways to achieve this, but I think it's going to work out. I'm not super motivated to get this done, because I'll only be carrying one stick. But it's on the list to finish up this season.

The magnets I tried were brittle and kept breaking when they slapped against something. I gave up on it. I tried putting moleskin and grip net between them but it didn't stop the problem. I was also trying to use them to hold them on my saddle as I went up the tree and "easily" pull them off when needed... better in planning than execution.

Those who tried magnets, were you using the cup magnets with the protective steel casing?

I bet that stick will stack beautifully with itself!

This whole topic seems like a really great solution for a problem that I still kinda prefer not to solve.

Well I finally got around to trying this. Will have to take a few more pictures tonight but so far I'm really liking these. Picture of what the spacing was and what it is now. Used Helicoils in the standoffs instead of the factory nut and am going to use a bolt through the side of the stick instead of a versa button.

I used some scraps from some cut to fit floor mats that were just the right thickness. They hold together with no movement when you shake them, but you dont have to wrench on them to take them apart.
