WARNING! Modding your saddle is at your own risk! -- I'm not a big fan of single adjustable buckles. Dual adjustable buckles allow you to center the saddle perfectly on your hips and adjust the buckle where ever you want on your waist. It really lets you dial in the buckle position and tightness of the waist strap. So I ordered two different buckle types ...

AustriAlpin Cobra Original Dual Adjustable Buckle - FC25KVV
http://austrialpin.net/product/cobra-original-dual-adjustable/ - 1 inch

American Direct Fabrication Raptor Dual Adjustable Buckle - ADF-220-25DB-LE
Original link is gone, so they may not sell it anymore :(http://raptorbuckleusa.com/adf-220-25db-le-1-dual-bar-long-ear-raptor-buckle-gen-2/

Steps ...
1. Cut the tri-glide off with metal shears (this is the side with the female buckle)
2. Pull the threads on the end of the waist strap on the male buckle side
3. Sew the end of the waist strap on the male buckle side. Sew it to the same thickness as the female buckle side.
4. Put the buckles on and DONE!

The reason you need to pull the threads on the male side is because Tethrd sews the end very thick. This prevent's the buckle from falling off. You can get the original buckle off but the new buckles mentioned above will not fit. So far I like the Cobra buckle the best. It's the smallest, lightest and the ears (the gold prongs) are somewhere in the middle, not too short not too long. The original Raptor buckle has very short ears and the new Raptor buckle has very long ears.

It's a super easy mod that does not affect the strength. All the buckles are 18kn. If anything it may improve the strength. That small thin tri-glide is the only thing holding on to the female side buckle

Nice. After a season with my mantis I think I would prefer buckles on the leg straps to the j-hook and loop system currently being used. They're just easier to manage and deal with in the field.
