Meat bags or pillowcases?

A lot of the deer I've killed over the years I've had to wipe the milk off their lips, so pack out weight was never an issue! LOL
I have taken few smaller ones before and yes, they are so tender! Sometimes the police call me when a car hits a deer and they have to shoot it. They give me a carcass receipt. Couple years ago they gave me a spotted fawn! It took no time at all to debone it and it was so good!
On the opposite side of this, one year I had a big buck and took it to a butcher who used a band saw... I really think the bone dust tainted the meat. I had to bring out my inner coyote to eat some of it.

Or trash bags? I just watched Warren Womack’s video where he used trash bags and an Alice pack. Trash bags might be the ticket. I’ve read that the meat bag needs to breathe, but apparently not?

I carry trash bags, but they don’t allow any moisture transfer. Game bags are definitely a better solution.

I just ordered the meat sacks. $47.48 including shipping.
I think you will be happy with your choice. If you are worried about blood in a pack you can always put the meat sack down in a plastic bag. Just leave the top open on the plastic bag so heat can still escape.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I think I'll just hose off my pack afterward. I wouldn't want the trash bag to restrict airflow.

Turns out pillow cases are expensive! I found some cheap game bags with a quick search. 4 pack of quarter Alaska quarter bags are $3.99 at cabelas. At that price if they’re not very durable they’re replaceable.

I've always just used 2 gallon ziplocs and debone the meat quick and dirty in the field. Furthest pack out was probably 1.5 miles but you can get it all in one load since your not toting out all that bone. Once I get back to camp or the vehicle you can crack the seal on the ziplocs if you are concerned about heat but I've never had any issue as the meat is typically on ice within about 2 hours of butchering. I also have everything in my pack on each hunt so im not leaving the meat to go back and get the gear I need. I will leave my bow/sticks/saddle behind and pack out just the meat then go back and get my gear.
