Looking for some input.

I have a ton of milkweed in the area and a local business is getting ready to have their ditches bush hogged. It is right thiccc (quite possibly more than three c's) with milkweed and I'm thinking about going one loading up my pack basket to the top with pods.

I will dry and pull it all from there and pack it in storage containers. From there I can decant it to field use containers and keep all the boys supplied.

Does anyone know how long this stuff keeps before it decays? The pulled strands that is, not the whole pod.

The seeds will be dried and transplanted in areas with less equipment disturbance for future use. I am hoping next year to send a big shipment out if someone is doing pods for a cause again. I will send pods to whoever is running it and they can disburse them from there.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I have some from 2 years ago that is still just as good as the day I put it in there. It's stored in zip lock bags out of the pod and I made sure it was really dry and fluffy. The seeds just kind of naturally separated from the silk and are at the bottom of the bags.

Yea it will keep forever if it doesnt get wet. Its float-y-ness gets significantly degraded if it gets compressed. So just store it loose and dont pack it.

Make sure it is out of the pods. I had a couple pods from last year in a container and they molded when I went for them this year

Make sure it’s completely dry and sealed from moisture and you won’t have any problems. I have some a few years old and it’s still just fine.

When i collect a bunch of pods i put them in a zip lock bag and leave it open put in the sun. Works to get them good and dry. Could even put bag on dash of truck.

I have dried milkweed out of the pod inside a ziploc bag. That ziploc bag (with a small hole) is still in my backpack after 8 years. I accidentally dropped it out of a tree and almost left it on the ground but I've had it so long its sentimental at this point, haha. So yes, it will most likely last forever
