Hi guys new to saddle hunting here. Im trying to come up with a climbing medthod that works with my run and gun hunting style in the northern PA. I thinking 4 muddy pro sticks with 4 step aiders on bottom two, should put me around 20 or so feet. I was looking at hawk helium or LW style I was kind of skeptical of the 32 in length I like that the muddys are 20 and I can stretch spacing because of my long legs. What do yall think?

I use Muddy pros with a 5 step on the first stick I put up and 2 step on the others. Gets me up there a good bit with flexible

Do you make your own aides or buy them looks like the commercial ones stay open better

Welcome to the site 20, I'm from PA as well. I'm pretty much a novice with the saddle but one of the reasons I got it was for a more lightweight mobile setup and the method that is working best for me is the one aider only method. I like both the black diamond five step and metolius 4 step. Only try it if your comfortable with them though as they can be dangerous if your not careful about moving your bridge up the tether as you climb. Certain trees will make it difficult, it is really easy on a straight tree though IMO. If I were hitting the big woods for archery I wouldn't wanna carry sticks. If you want the ultimate in lightweight setups there's some good threads on here. I've picked up a lot of info from justsomedude and noxninja. Climbing with a handclimber top is another lightweight option to consider. Didn't work as well for me as the aider but everyone seems to develope their own preference. Sticks seem like a good option for closer setups I can't comment on them yet though as I still need to work out a system like this myself. And almost forgot the option of spurs, I hunt a lot of public so I don't usually think of that as an option.

Yeah I hear ya lots of different options I think I'm going to try the muddy stick with some sort of aided option to get me feet wet thanks guy

Muddy pro's with diy single step sewn to bottom step on each stick.
I used tubular climbing webbing , two 8" sections of 11mm climbing rope lock stitched inside the webbing to keep the loop open and to prevent it from sliding around inside the webbing.
I set my first stick so the cam cleats are about top of my head. When loaded up the stick will set tight to most trees with the cam cleats about eye level. Setting each additional stick the same way, I'm able to get to 22- 24 feet depending on the tree diameter ,that seems to be the determining factor of how far the sticks settle in loaded.
I like the "one step" each stick method as they pack up easy, easy to get up and down. I also like them permanently attached as I don't lose them packing in and out.
Good luck~~~

I use the muddy pros with 5 step black Diamond aiders. I usetup aiders on the first 2 muddy sections and that puts me at 15' with just 2 stix. Added the last 2 stix and I'm up to 20-21'. I'm gonna order another 5 step aider to put me close to 21' using just 3 sections.
I also will use the 1 stick climb with 5 step aider also

For me I found the multi step aiders really difficult to climb when the tree is not straight. When you climb into the lean the aiders are too close to tree and on the side of the lean I almost bit it. Also makes using the climbing belt harder too as you really need to have both hands with firm grip to keep you stable. Maybe you guys know something I don't. I use 3 sticks with a single aider and get about 15 ft. I like to be higher so I might add another stick or maybe some cranford rope steps.

For me the trick is to burry my foot in as far as I can from the first step. Sometimes it just takes longer to climb.

What's the best way to attach aiders. I don't want to have to put them on every time I use them.

Can you see how I did it on my heliums? I was originally concerned about strength but I'm not after trying it.
