My $20 DIY platform

Thought I'd share some pics and info on my platform I just finished today. I got two old hang on stands for free from a buddy who upgraded to some bigger ones.
First I removed the platform and the seat. Flipped the stand upside down and drilled new holes for the seat to mount above the cross brace.
We have a waterjet at my work so I made a program to cut some teeth plates out and welded them to the backside. One at the top, and one below the platform. Put in some new bolts, and reused the old straps.
Turned out to be really solid once it's set, and will allow to see if I can justify spending more on a better platform later on.
Overall, I'm very happy with the way it turned out, and I look forward to trying it out this weekend.

I built one similar, but it was flipped over and uprights were much shorter. Mine sucked, but yours looks great

Thank you. I looked at a lot of pictures before deciding how to do it, and I tried to mimic the predator platform as much as I could

Nice! Gives me a good idea of a couple of old stands I’ve seen hanging around my hunting camp that no one uses. I will try and play with them like you’ve done here. Fine job!

Thank you. Not sure how I would have done it if I didn't have access to a water jet, but I'm sure a cutting torch or bandsaw could be used if someone was willing to put in the work for it.

1) where there is a will there is a way
2) I have 6 API huntin sticks so I may be able to rob the stand offs depending on what type of stand I find.

I really like the long post and a knee pad option so you wouldn’t have to pack a pad as well. I may incorporate that into my spin off as well!

Be sure to post some pictures when you figure something out! I love watching good things turn to great things once people start improvising and making their own personal changes to things.

I can tell you from experience that even with a pad, those uprights are not comfy on your knees.

Those are some hella heavy duty teeth. I used 1/8" material.

I was thinking of mounting a plate (poly or plywood) and stuffing it with a thick foam pad then wrapping it. Did you just strap a pad on the uprights?

Yep i just strapped a walmart butt padd around it and the tree. Its manageable. I have hunted it about 6 sits for 3+ hours each and i primarily sit. Its just far from ideal. Adding a sheet of something like you said would help a lot.

Cool I might try it when I build one. I use a pad strapped to a tree with a ROS, and I can manage 3-4 hours but have to fidget some. That’s why I’m looking into a plat

I was just looking at my old stand yesterday that had the same seat wondering how I could turn it into a platform. This is super helpful!

Grinder and cut off wheel would do it. Would need a small case of wheels but it’s doable for guys who don’t have fancy stuff. Use my grinder way more than I ever thought I would when I bought it.

Use thinner material and you could do it with only 1 wheel no problem. They last a lot longer if you let them eat at their own pace and don't use a lot of pressure.

This. Also, harbor freight has sales on them frequently. You can burn through them on some projects! I think I picked up a 10 pack for $5 last trip, used a coupon for 20% off and another coupon to get a free magnetic tool holder!

That is the ones i use. No complaints. I recently got a vertical metal bandsaw and i gotta say it beats the hek out of using the grinder. Some things the grinder is still better for though.
