I would put down grip tape on the one with the bars. That's a wide area that could get slick

Agreed and maybe add some spray foam to the tube to cut down the noise when the temps dip below freezing

If the Muddy seat model is roughly the same weight as the other, I'd probably lean toward going with steel that might bend instead of cast aluminum that might break. Has anyone ever seen any cracking or breakage on the XOP seats used in this manner? (Gotta remember they were not designed to be used as platforms.)

Tracker, I'll look forward to your evaluation of each model once you've had the chance to use them a bit.

Never broke one personally. I know a few guys have snapped the ears on the aluminum platform by using them as connection points. Ultimately, strength is a moot point. You shouldn't stand on the platform unless you are strapped to the tree in some manner.

I am new to the platform / saddle hunting game and I also have a muddy stand that I am considering converting to a platform. Can you tell me the benefits (if any) to lowering the seat as shown in the pic and using the 6 point bracket instead of the V brackets on climbing sticks? And if I recall right, the benefit of the strap looped through the seat instead of leaving the versa buttons on and strapping that way, is the locking action that takes place when you lower the seat down after strapping it in place, thus locking it in a lot tighter than the normal strap / versa button. Thanks.

the six point brackets are a lot stronger. when you cam the seat over, there is ALOT of pressure on the brackets and the V brackets don't hold up as well.

I have personally bent/broken the brackets from a set of muddy stick brackets in the same way.
 
So.... I just realized that I need to update my platform... mine is creaking when I shift my weight. And, I'm out of my hunting budget...
