It’s my first year hunting this area. It’s a large parcel of woods. The topography doesn’t have many features. It goes from a cliff and descends to a swampy pond. To the north there is railroad tracks and on the othe side of the tracks there is a a thin strip of land and then a stream. There’s lots of game trails but not much sign. I’ve hunted there a few times mainly where a few game trails come together with no luck. Any ideas?

Walk the whole piece of land and find where they are either eating or bedding. I’m a couple years into hunting and when I first started out I was content with finding deers trails and hunting them. I would eventually see deer but it’s an awful way to hunt. Trails that aren’t some kind of pinch point are a shot in the dark. Finding where they eat and sleep and the area between the two should be more beneficial.

No advice is going to get you on deer like just walking until you find some. They are out there, don’t be afraid to bump a few to figure out what they’re doing.

TLDR: boots on the ground

Walk transitions and find the lowest or wettest areas. Its ysually where thermals wilm sink too and most of time where bug bits gonna bed
Any open woods sign you find with easy access is most likely night time acitivity spots.
walk right by or through them.
