So I'm converting from a climber to a saddle. I ultimately want a Kestrel but as of right now I only have my rc harness. I have all the ropes and webbing to make the lineman's rope and tree anchor which is 11-12mm static line that I used for rappelling years ago. It's been retired from rappelling on but still has good life in it as an anchor. I also have a diy set of 4 step aiders, plenty of locking binders and prussik loops.
So my questions are more opinions on gear choice but I do have a few questions on knot choices as well.
So I've the silent partner being used on the anchor as well as the prussik but what about a kliemheist knot? It is a self locking knot but moves easier when unloaded than the prussik. I'm probably thinking too far into it just curious.
My harness that I have is a Wild Country Synchro Elite and has 10kn accessory loops that are big enough to only fit a caribiner. There are one on each hip, 3 in the back as well as a 10kn haul line loop in the back. I'll clip my bow and pack there. They are designed so that if you take a fall while you are hauling gear bags they dont rip off the harness and plummet to the ground. I plan on using these to attach the lineman's belt to but what are your thoughts on using it for a bridge attachment as well? I plan on having a separate anchor line attaching the belay loop of the harness to the anchor point of the tree anchor but would this help distribute the weight to the sides better than hanging off the belay loop?
Platforms: what does everyone prefer in relation to size vs weight vs speed of setup? Right now I plan on just using my aiders or a tree branch but am looking for ideas that are either purchased or buildable for the future.
I'm looking forward to getting more mobile and ditching the 20 something pound climbing stand. This will open up so many more trees tu hunt out of I cant wait.
