Decided to take the plunge and join the saddle hunting world after hunting in Ohio this fall and having a hard time finding good trees for climbers. Following Bowhunter15's videos and just got a Mammut Ophir 3 harness and rope / tubing from REI and made my own saddle using my Summit Viper seat. Still deciding on which steps/sticks to buy and using a fixed setup on metal stick ladder for now. Appreciate all the great info you guys have out here.

Welcome, glad to see more NC hunter's getting in a saddle. What part of NC? and feel free to put your name on the saddle hunter map.

Thx. I added myself on the map earlier today. I'm in Hickory.

Welcome, I'm in the Raleigh area. Also make the trip up to Ohio, have hunted the Paint Creek public land and for the past few years have been hunting AEP property near McConnelsville Ohio.

Hello Tim. I had been hunting in Indiana and Wisconsin but tried Ohio for a closer hunt at Salt Fork park. It rained 8.5 out of thd 10 days we were there, starting Oct. 28.

I hunted the 2nd week of Nov and the week after Thanksgiving and the weather was great, saw a lot of deer movement and several good bucks, just no shot opportunities. My season was handicapped this year do to a knee injury, tore my patellar tendon in my knee resulting: having knee surgery the end of Oct, only 2 weeks prior to my scheduled hunt in OH!! This limited my ability to be mobile (had to hunt from fixed ladder stands or from the ground), couldn't use my climber or the lonewolf sticks due to the alternating steps and not being able to bend my knee... Thankfully my hunting buddies helped me get around and to different areas on the property. Even with the set back I can't complain, at least I was out there and saw the class of deer you travel to Ohio to hunt!!
