Welcome from Kansas!
We feel bad for u tooWelcome from Central Illinois! We have skeeters and ticks here but I feel bad for you Southern hunters.
No gators, and the only poisonous snakes are Copperheads and a very few Timber Rattlers. Our deer field dress over 100 for Doe and bucks can easily be in the 150 - 200 range and all are corn fed fatties. We feel bad for u too
Okay, I am impressed with the amount of cover in you all's swamp grounds. I have to hunt the hardwoods and often have to add some saplings to nearby trees to keep from climbing too high for an old guy.I’ll have you know I had a doe dress 101 in 2022 lol and only had 1 heat stroke in gun season and leave our swamp puppy’s alone.
I appreciate it all. I would love to meet up at some point. The Scouting workshop is definitely something I will be interested in. Possibly a but late for this season. Last season up in KY I was scouting and hunting in (Dec, as stated before, lol a bit late). What a blast.Sorry gents, haven’t been on the phone lately. Between work and the puppies we are trying to train.
@Testrun south Florida is brutal heat and deer season starts in a few weeks. That’s a tough ask of anyone especially when Ky is so different both in deer, shooting lanes, and temperatures. As @Pyronole and @Weldabeast suggested, go to the scouting work shop that Swamp N Stomp puts on. Those dudes kill a lot of deer in south and central Florida. They also have Pete from Florida Camo there. It will allow you to get an idea of whitetail terrain and sign in Florida as well as make new hunting buddies from your area. They are also well versed in saddle hunting and climbing. If you want to trek a little further north in September, I’d be happy to take you hunting with me as well as assist you with getting situated in your saddle. Also like mentioned thermocells and lightweight breathable clothing is crucial in the area we hunt. If I were you, I would check out Florida camo’s website and pick up some of their clothes. It’s perfect for our area. If you have any questions or need some contacts/advice feel free to message me on here. Good luck and welcome to the new obsession
Welcome from Wentzville MissouriHello all and thanks for all the awesome threads so far.
Not too much to share. I was born and raised most of my life in FL. Born on an orange grove in the middle of nowhere. I was one of those little guys running around with a .22 on a three and 4 wheeler not long after I could walk.
Lived in KY for around 15 years.
Now, in SoFlo with the glades close by.
I got back into bows 2 years ago and sparked an interest in saddles last year.
I was up in KY stalking some white tails and using a couple preset stands from a buddy. While stalking I saw some trees along a trail with multiple rubs and scrapes and thought......damn....I need a saddle.
I hope to learn a lot on here. I hope I can contribute a bit.
I need to learn the ins and outs of the glades. I want to hit the season late this month and early next month...if I can take the heat and the bugs.
This fall I will hit southern KY again and hopefully utilize my saddle in my newly found spot!
Anyone else in SE FL?
Good advice! Hunting early season in MD when it’s still 95F and I still have to wear layers and a bug net for mosquitoes (DEET and Thermacell only help a little against these swamp skeeters), I bring 5L of water just for an afternoon hunt and easily go through all of it.U could ask me for help dialing in your saddle setup and u will be more confused after I'm done then when ya started.....hahahahaha
Ur conditions are brutal....u really need to be a weight weenie so u got capacity for water. Liter of water = 2 climbing stick pretty much.
Lol, yeah....at this stage, who knows wth is out there.Welcome from Arkansas. Wouldnt be too worried about the skeeters and gators. They got them pythonaconda's down there, bigguns.

You will thank me later. The lite version
They have a scouting workshop coming June 29th in Jupiter Fl. That isn’t too terribly far from you is it?I appreciate it all. I would love to meet up at some point. The Scouting workshop is definitely something I will be interested in. Possibly a but late for this season. Last season up in KY I was scouting and hunting in (Dec, as stated before, lol a bit late). What a blast.
The adrenaline rush I had when I heard some 4 legged creature walking Up close to my side and coming into view was insane. Too small of a doe, but plan I had worked 2x. I had drew back, but just couldn't release it. To this day I don't know how they couldn't hear my heart pounding LOL... I will never forget that. My heart hasn't moved like that in a long time!.(takes a lot for me to get a rush these days).
I think the difference in KY is I can basically go into a meditative state. Not really any bugs, it is chilly, but you're warm. It's dry (although I did get into a bit of light rain). I could camp out there for days.
The Glades will be different for sure.
What a rush! It stayed in my mind all year!
I believe it is like 1- 1.5 hr or so away. I would definitely attend that, if I can get the time off. They have a scouting workshop coming June 29th in Jupiter Fl. That isn’t too terribly far from you is it?
Don't be mad at me cause I'm not trying to reprimand/be a smarty pants but snakes are venomous, not poisonous....venom injected, poison ingestedNo gators, and the only poisonous snakes are Copperheads and a very few Timber Rattlers. Our deer field dress over 100 for Doe and bucks can easily be in the 150 - 200 range and all are corn fed fatties.
There are poisonous snakes though, just not in Florida lol. Few, but they do exist!Don't be mad at me cause I'm not trying to reprimand/be a smarty pants but snakes are venomous, not poisonous....venom injected, poison ingested
I wish our deer were that size....but a 250 - 300 pound hog isn't that far out of the ordinary
