New here. Hunted from a tree sling back-in-the-day but this year I’m moving to a tree-saddle setup. I have several questions?

First - Rope for tethreds, lineman belts & climbing.
which do you prefer. Single Braid with core strands OR Double Braided ropes AND if you don’t mind explaining why? thanks

Welcome to the site! Lots of knowledgable guys here willing to share their viewpoints and help where they can.

My personal preference is a double braid in the 11-11.5mm (7/16") range. I like the double braid due to its strength and ability to hold its cross-section. It works well with the climbing accessories I use for climbing, positioning and adjusting in my setup (i.e. Ropeman1, Petzel Grigri2 or Madrock Safeguard, or even prussic knots). I prefer the size I mentioned because it allows me to feel like I can grip it well in my hand. Much smaller and it becomes difficult to get a grip on. For me the 7/16" is a good compromise between bulk and optimum handling. The double braid also provides a bit of stiffness which is useful when flipping a linesman behind the tree.

Another aspect that plays into my rope selection is splicabilty. I want a rope that is splicale so I look for double braids that are splicable and either buy them pre-spliced or do it myself. I just prefer splices over the bulk associated with knots.
