I've been free-dive spearfishing for about 10 years now. Being land locked and needing to get my fix of hunting I decided to join a buddy for a DIY public land riffle hunt in Colorado last season. It was brutal, unsuccessful and very challenging. I instantly found out riffle hunting wasn't for me and started my obsession with archery hunting. All my focus was on this years archery elk hunt and preparing for that. Due to a change in jobs my 3 week trip turned into a quick 1 week of flying out packing in deep, putting in miles on miles in the back country only to not see any elk. Now getting settled into a new home in Lower Alabama Im diving into hunting white tail. I quickly went out and bought a climbing stand (summit viper) and gave that 2 sits in the lovely 88 degree Georgia heat a few weeks ago during their archery season. I didn't like the bulky large stand and started looking for new ideas. I came across the lone wolf assault stand and sticks and ordered that system to try out. It is a nice system but seamed to be still a little cumbersome for the long walks in thick brush on public land around here. Being right at the start of season I am frantically finding all the info I can on light weight hunting. I quickly found DIY Sportmen's , G2's and Traditional bowhunting's YouTube channel that led me to try saddle hunting. I modified an old climbing harness to add lineman's loops, fashioned a tether and headed out with my LW assault used as a large saddle style platform. Although the hurricane last week killed my normal access to the public land and everything in the woods was disturbed i wanted to get out and try it. didn't see any deer or sign this outing but i did get a glimpse of what is to come in the saddle hunting world and I love it. I have since placed an order for a predator platform and mantis saddle, trying patiently to wait on the arrival of that using my thrown together system. this is pics from the hunt 2 days post hurricane and some of my recent underwater trophies (cause thats all i have at the moment)
Looking forward to learning and sharing my experiences on here, already found tons of great information.
