Hello All,
I'm a new member but I have been on this site daily since early fall. My work room and bank account have not been the same since. I got here via Michigan Sportsman to Archer Talk to DIY Sportsman to G2 Outdoors to Saddle Hunter. I spent all season building and hunting out of DIY saddle / climbing gear. First step was buying the RCH, and modifying. Then the sit drag. Then doing the G2 mods on the sit drag. Then making my own double-steps and cutting down my LW sticks. Rope mod, amsteel rope mod, etc. Plus learning a world of new stuff about ropes, knots, splicing, biners, you name it.
For a platform I started out carrying an old Chippewa Wedge-loc hang-on stand. It was a respectable 13lbs when it was new. That with my 4 full LW stands and clothes had me carrying plenty of weight on my back. But I was saddle hunting and having fun.
Unfortunately every lighter platform/step option was back-ordered this fall so I ended up making my own platform. Parts from a broken Chippewa hang-on, LW stand-off, LW steps, and 3/4 plywood (similar to the WE platform) and I was down to 8lbs. It looks like the robot from MST3000 but it works.
Just bought 7/16 static HTP/MadRock SafeGuard/Zing-IT/Petzl Ascender to start learning SRT. More fun! My wife just shakes her head about my "Pinterest for Dudes" site. But I have not had this much fun hunting in years, even when I am not seeing deer.
Big props to Red Squirrel for creating the site and maintaining a positive vibe. It is so cool to see ideas shared and encouraging responses and thoughtful, constructive advice.
