New to saddle hunting

I am interested in saddle hunting. Have been lurking here. I am thinking about purchasing a cruzr xc and wondering how valuable it would be to buy the " kit" with ropes and platform will be to a never saddle hunted newbie.

Where you located, I always tell someone new to reach out and see if any member is in your area. It's a busy time, but might be helpful. Welcome from NW Indiana

Al9ng with a trophyline edp platform. I have some beast sticks to use. Hopefully this gets me started. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again
 
Good start. Might want to think about a Ropeman 1 or a Kong Duck. You find the only way to really know what you like is to fiddle with your set up at ground level ALOT!

This is GREAT advice......^^^^ We have support poles in our basement, so when my used saddle arrived, I put it on at least once a day and went through the basic routine I saw on several online "beginner saddle" videos. Getting handy with accessing your linemans rope from a dump pouch and attaching it.......remember to lock down the gate every time. Then shifting from linemans to teather.....then back to linemans. Those reps were invaluable when testing out with a single stick at first, then hunting off a stand/stick setup to focus on just the saddle side. Finally, I set sticks, had my EDP attached by a clip to the rear or my saddle, clijmbed up, set the platform, shifted to teather, set up the tree accessory belt, hauled up my bow and was hunting.

Experienced saddle hunters relate that it is a constant process of evaluation and refinement.....and from my limitied experience....I couldn't agree more. Your prior treestand hunting experience will serve you well, so you can focus on the new skills of saddle hunting. Every time I use my saddle I learn something or customize things a bit to fit my 'system'. All the best.

That’ll get you started. Check out a video on how to splice amsteel. No major tools needed, it’s cheap and has uses for just about anything. You’ll need a gear hanger no matter how you get up the tree. You’ll hang your pack and weapon on it. I started with regular old paracord, but made one out of super small like 1/16” dyneema and a heavy duty jam cam. If you make one, put a sleeve of shrink wrap on your looped end and it will connect a lot easier.. welcome to the rabbit hole!
