Maybe it’s just me, but good butchers seem to be getting harder to find. I’ve decided to post this thread as an open resource for anyone living/hunting in Ohio to list their preferred wild game butchers in the state, or to find a new one should that be your mission. Couple of “rules” to keep it simple and efficient:
  • Name of the butcher shop/butcher and city or town (county is good enough if you’re not sure)
  • Please list butchers you would recommend only. Although honest feedback is appreciated in both positive and negative experiences, let’s try not to trash a butcher’s name on here if we didn’t have a good experience. Just keep it to a civil reply if anything. Seconded recommendations are definitely welcome.
  • Only list butchers who are actually in the state of Ohio.
  • Please keep “I just butcher them myself” or “there are no good butchers anywhere” comments to yourself. We know you’re the best at taking care of your deer; this thread is for the rest of us who need some professional assistance.
  • Tell us a reason or two why you like the butcher’s work. Good packaging? Fat trimming on point? Great prepared meats like jerky or sausage? A1 customer service? 24hr drop-off locker and/or donations to charities that fight hunger? Let us know!
I’m going to post another butchery thread for the only other state I’ve hunted, but please feel free to copy and paste this opening post for your own states’ threads. Hopefully we can get a good registry for all 50 states going!

NOW FOR MY RECOMMENDATION:

Buck Creek Taxidermy
Rushsylvania, OH (Logan County)
Fantastic pricing and turnaround times, family owned and operated. My meat is always cleanly trimmed and packaged in plastic then butcher paper, vac-sealed ground meat. My euro mounts have also come back pristine and for the best price in a large radius.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Warner’s Deer Processing
Richwood, OH (Union County)
Only had their summer sausage and snack sticks but my neighbor swears by their butchering. Might send a doe there this season just to compare. They’re very nice on the phone and have been in business quite some time.
