Packing in and out

Brand new to saddle hunting this year. Very much in the learning phase of packing in and out. Using 3 and 4 sticks for now, but I’m thinking I may go 3 and an aider.

With 4 sticks, the pack is more balanced with two sticks vertically on each side. Have considered laying 3 sticks horizontally either at the top or bottom of the back. The Eberlestock X2 has a bow bucket, which if I used I think I’d have to carry three sticks horizontally across the bottom of the pack.

FWIW, I’m not really focused on being ultra lightweight- I enjoy the physical challenge. That’s not to say I’m opposed to reducing carry weight, so long as it makes the climb safer, quieter, and simpler.

Here’s a pic. What’s not pictured is the predator platform, which will arrive this week and I plan to stick it inside the pack, most likely.

Feedback advice appreciated.

Also new to saddle hunting but running a similar set up. Currently only using 3 sticks but would like to move to 4 in the future. So far I prefer to carry my sticks vertically in the X2.

Are you hooking your sticks to your saddle as you go up? So far I’ve used paracord connected to each one and pull it up from ground as I need them. I hook a paracord loop on a s-Biner connected to my saddle. Plan to do the same thing with the saddle.

How do you guys like the x2 ? How is the waist size? One problem I have are that many packs have too big of a waist belt. I’m like a 29-30” waist.

Only advice I could give is to get the tops of the sticks below your head, and if possible below your shoulders - might be a stretch if they're full length 3 steppers. Just makes it easier when they don't hang up on stuff. That pack looks cool.

Man that would catch every branch in my brushy woods. I have my bow on my pack at head or lower height and it always hangs up. You could cut the sticks shorter.

I’m a 29” waist. The belt doesn’t stay put very well, so folded over the excess and zip-tied it. I think it could be cinched down for a waist as small as 25”. I’m happy with the pack. The frame is a great feature that adds to comfort and weight distribution. This is why I’ve used an ALICE pack up until now.

Thank you. Yeah, I was concerned about the height of the sticks too, but when the pack is on they are below the top of my head by several inches.

I'm definitely liking the looks of that pack. Just when I finally decided that no pack will ever make me happy and to just settle for what I have you post a pick of another pack I want to try out.

I am new this year too. I have a Badlands Superday and Hawk Helium sticks (cut down). My Predator platform attaches to the outside of the pack and I actually carry the sticks separately with a little strap that lone wolf sold. Sling those separately over my shoulder and it has worked out great!!

Still sorting out the details but what I've been doing is placing the first stick and the hanging the 2nd stick before really leaving the ground. 3rd stick is attached to my saddle and goes up with me that way.
