Hello All,

I have seen a few different ideas out there for a platform on the top of a climbing stick. I'm aware there is a guy fabricating one but it's $65 and I'm thinking about trying to DIY something first. I have the predator platform, but I'm thinking for those really short/quick hunts I would like to just use the top of the climbing stick, if I can make something just a little larger. I have muddy pro climbing sticks fyi.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You could, but I’d stick with the platform, more room to maneuver for shots. A mini platform step isn’t saving much weight, less usable, and if you aren’t using it all the time then you are always bolting and unbolting it. Just seems like a pain to me. Get your system down with your platform and repeat the same thing every time, practice on it and there will be no surprises come hunt time

I'm still going to be using the predator, I'm thinking for those really short quick hunts...1.5 hour or less hunts. I have 4 muddy pro sticks and I'm planning on only using 2-3 for my climb up anyways. I wouldn't have to swap the stick platform off ever.

I just figured there were come crazy minds on here, and I'm sure someone has come up with something for their top step on their stick as a mini platform.

Can you weld aluminum? If so, there's some options that might make sense. If not, buy the 65.00 one and be done with it. Personally I'd buy two squirrel steps and put one on either side of my top stick and call it a day.

I do know someone who can weld for me, but I do like your idea of putting a step on either side of my top step. Thanks!

Got ya, so you’re looking for a build design for the mini platform? Not much to it. You got an angle grinder/cut off wheel? Go to your metal shop and get 6 inches or a foot of 2.5 inch aluminum that’s 1/4 thick. Cut in half of you buy a foot. Cut lengthwise to make your “L” shapes. Then do a small relief cut on the top so it doesn’t hit the tree and angle the bottoms, drill holes, smooth edges, easy peasy

I have been thinking about making a small step on the top of one of my Hawk Helium sticks using old oak flooring bolted through the top steps. I thought one about 12" wide by 8" deep. I will surely post photos if I do this. :dizzy:

Agreed, I hunted my first season on short hunts w/top of lw stick & 2 ameristeps on either side. Worked fine.... most comfortable thing ever , nope but definitely doable for a few hours.
